Ravenswood pupils have the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award as part of the Options enrichment curriculum delivered by teaching staff. We have successfully run the Duke of Edinburgh Award every year since 2014. Pupils commit to learning new skills, they also complete an expedition.
Duke of Edinburgh is a universally recognised qualification, and we are so proud of all our students who take part. The scheme offers our pupils opportunities to work in a team and individually, experience an overnight stay away from home, and develop communication and independence skills. All pupils irrespective of their need can achieve and succeed in their learning; developing new skills and strengthening others.
It is a very successful scheme, and in past years we have seen pupils grow in confidence, overcome personal fears and anxieties and establish self help skills.

Our pupils have achieved Bronze and Silver Awards and we have now extended the scheme to offer the Gold Award.
The scheme is divided up into four elements: Voluntary section, Skills section, Physical section and The Expedition. In the past we have completed a variety of skills in each of the sections which include map reading, cooking, navigating and orienteering, fire lighting, community voluntary work and fund raising, team building, swimming, canoeing, bell ringing, golf and leadership.
